• Moog Music
MOOG ETHERWAVE PRO THEREMIN FOR SALE IN THE UK

Visit on eBay
The Etherwave Pro is a professional quality theremin featuring classic theremin sounds, excellent playability housed in a beautiful eye-catching cabinet. It is designed as a solution for the gigging musician who wants the best theremin available in a portable package.

The Etherwave Pro also won the 2005 Excellence In Design Award (EID). This bold, beautiful theremin is designed for the gigging musician. Drawing on his 50 years of experience, Bob Moog has designed the next step in the evolution of the original electronic instrument, the Theremin. The Etherwave Pro is a step up both from the best-selling theremin of all time, the Etherwave Standard. The Etherwave Pro features professional quality response and sound in a package designed both for beauty and portability. Whether you're a seasoned thereminist or someone drawn to it's unusual sound and looks, you'll appreciate the quality of response and control this product offers.

Moog theremins are real attention getters on stage - whether it's a Nine Inch Nails concert or the current Motley Crue concert (Etherwaves have been seen and heard on both tours) - the audience will be captivated by the instrument that allows the musician to "pull music from the ether".

The Etherwave Pro features removable pitch and volume antennas. The Pitch range of this instrument extends to 6 1/2 octaves. Both Volume and Pitch antenna response are tuned from the wooden pitch and volume knobs as well as the fine adjustment trim controls at the bottom of the front panel.

The front panel controls include a range switch which allows for choosing one of three octave ranges. The Timbre rotary switch is used to select one of the five preset timbres (classic theremin tones) or enables the front panel Waveform, Brightness, and Filter controls, which allow the thereminist to tailor their own personal theremin tone.

The Etherwave Pro also features a headphone output with level control and a dedicated tuner output. A lighted Standby switch allows the Etherwave Pro to be on but silences the audio output.

A line-level audio output is provided, as well as Pitch and Volume Control Voltages, for interfacing the Etherwave Pro with the Minimoog Voyager Synthesizer, or Moogerfooger Analog Effects.

The Etherwave Pro features a power supply that operates with line voltages from 100 VAC to 240VAC, 50-60 Hz.

New Android app 'Tilt Theremin' uses accelerometer to resemble theremin

The newly released Android app is a softsynth which controls frequencies using the accelerometer, and thereby lets you play melodies by tilting the phone from side to side in the air. It also has a number of other features, like the ability to adjust the number of notes playable on 180 degrees of rotation, and pulling the range of notes up and down even as you play. There are 6 different sounds to choose from, as well as an echo effect with adjustable parameters.

Despite not being a very able operator of it, I've recorded a video for demonstrational purposes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3q2uk3WZo8

Happy tilting!

Rare Theremin recording of Lucie Bigelow Rosen
Dutch thereminist Thorwald Jorgensen has posted an excellent historic recording of Lucie Rosen on YouTube. His quote is below...

'Rare recording of Lucie Bigelow Rosen doing a practise session with her pianist (approximately 1939/1940). This recording served for study purposes for mrs. Rosen herself, and wasn't meant to be published. These days it's considered to be an interesting historical document of Theremin culture in the 30's. Listening to this recording you can't help but wonder what her playing would have been like during an actual concert. The recording is followed by an interview with the Dutch radio which mrs. Rosen gave during one of her European tours somewhere around 1936.'

Thanks Thorwald!

ExTheremintal describes himself as '..an aspiring thereminist in my mid-twenties living in Toronto. Full time University student, full time employee, full time geek...'

He has a "video blog" series about learning how to play the theremin on YouTube, and recorded his first video within an hour of getting his Moog Etherwave. With five videos in the series so far, its proving to be a fascinating insight into one guy's experiences playing the Theremin.
MIDI Therething
The Therething is an open source MIDI controller based on an Arduino (an open source microcontroller board, plus a free software development environment). OK, so it's not a true analog Theremin, but it sounds pretty good, and it's enclosure is awesome! Check out the link for more information, including the source code and more videos.
Theremin in TCM's 15 Most Influential Movie Soundtracks List

• Samuel Hoffman • Bernard Herrman • Paul Shure
The classic Theremin Soundtrack to 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' has been chosen by TCM as one of the Top 15 most influential Soundtracks.

Here's the quote from TCM...

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) – Composer: Bernard Herrmann
Eerie and haunting, the score Bernard Herrmann created for The Day the Earth Stood Still set the style for future science fiction films, from It Came From Outer Space (1953) to Blade Runner (1982). Although Miklos Rozsa in Spellbound (1945) introduced Hollywood to the electronic instrument known as the Theremin, Herrmann was the first to use it to create an all-electronic score. He did so by combining two Theremins with electronic organs, vibraphones and amplified strings, among other instruments. The jarring sounds perfectly captured the anxieties underlying this tale of a UFO landing in the middle of Washington, D.C. Herrmann also recorded on multiple tracks, long before stereophonic sound was widely used in Hollywood. He even played some cues backwards to create an unearthly masterpiece.
