The Continuum Fingerboard
Description: The Continuum Fingerboard is a new MIDI controller that allows continuous control over each note in a performance. It can be used with a variety of synthesizers: USB MIDI synthesizers, traditional (non-USB) MIDI synthesizers on multiple MIDI cables, analog synthesizers, and Symbolic Sound Corporation's Kyma Sound Design Workstation.
The Continuum Fingerboard resembles a traditional keyboard in that it is approximately the same size and is played with ten fingers (Haken, Abdullah, and Smart 1992, Haken, Tellman, and Wolfe 1998). Like keyboards supporting MIDI's polyphonic aftertouch, the Continuum Fingerboard continually measures each finger's pressure. The Continuum Fingerboard also resembles a fretless string instrument in that it has no discrete pitches; any pitch may be played, and smooth glissandi are possible.

Description: Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje is active as a singer/voice user, whistler, keyboard, violin and theremin player as well as being a computer assistant and studio engineer, mainly in connection with the contemporary improvisation ensemble SPUNK (distributed by ECM records). She has also played with Oslo Industrial Ensemble, No Spaghetti Edition, Masami Akita (Merzbow), Zbigniew Karkowski, Gino Robair, Jaap Blonk, Oslo Sinfonietta and Lasse Marhaug. She has performed a chamber opera by Dagfinn Rosnes, especially written for her voice, among many other things such as Icelandic film music by Hjalmar Ragnarsson. She performed her own music for Ibsen's play "Ghosts" at Northlands festival in 1999, and last year had two performances in Tokyo.

Description: This ensemble makes audiovisual shows based on music of the Russian and foreign composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Hendel, Glinka, and Miller. They consist of theremin, grand piano, tenor and soprano, a 'plastic dancers group'?! and visualizer (computer, which creates visual motion pictures for the music being played). The ensemble was created in 1996 on the basis of conceptual and technical developments of Eidos Group by the Institute of Applied Mathematics of Russian Academy of Sciences. Have a look at their 'Sample Compositions' - particularly "I have met you" for some really interesting tracks.
