Lucie Bigelow Rosen, one of the pioneer performers on the theremin, informs this column that a new instrument has recently been developed in which two more octaves have been added to the previous three. This is not a matter of complete joy, for the extra octaves have to be squeezed into the same length of air. This makes intonation, already a precarious thing, still more difficult. The spaces between the notes are much smaller and require more definite placing, which, in turn, call for greater control of hand and fingers that swim through the air like restless goldfish. There are only four of these late models extant.
